The P. K. D. Dueling Pistol Set Custom by Doktor A

A “steampunked”-Blade Runner Blaster by Doktor A, complete with display box, is one of the lushest piece of memorabilia I’ve witnessed for a long time… in fact, most goodness that is shared in my mind were done by Doktor A!

In this particular instance, the “P. K. D. Dueling Pistol Set” had been customised from a Tomenosuke Resin Blaster Kits, including Acrylic, Vintage Blown Glass, Polyurethane, Silver, Quartz Crystal, Epoxy, Vintage Clock Gears, Acrylic Velvet, Paper, Brass, Found Objects, in a Vintage Wooden Box.

This private commission will be showcased to an unsuspecting public the next three days at Tokyo Comic Con 2017 @ Makuhari Messe, from Friday, December 1st to Sunday, December 3rd. *The item is a Private Commission piece, and is Not For Sale*

“I was recently commissioned by a long time collector to create this set of Dueling pistols in my own style from a couple of Tomenosuke Blade Runner Blaster resin kits. The collector has a deep appreciation of the movie and I didn’t feel he wanted something trivial creating. I love Blade Runner too so it was a fun challenge to mess about with such an iconic movie prop. Keeping it clear as to what the source material was but pulling it squarely into the Mechtorian world.” (Read more on brucewhistlecraft.com / All images via)

Bottleneck Gallery announces a “new” poster print from artist Raid71’s depiction of BLADE RUNNER, available for sales November 16th @ 12PM ET on bottleneckgallery.com. TWO Editions to be had, each priced at US$50 and US$65. I am severely tempted to score these but I have zero wall space and I have not bought any “prints” for a good few years too … dare I start again?

BOTTLENECK PRESS: "Raid71’s newest officially licensed Blade Runner print captures the neon-doused, neo-noir streets of Los Angeles in 2019 as Deckard pursues his mission. Raid71’s color choices pair perfectly with Blade Runner’s bold scenery.

In addition to the regular edition, Raid71 has created a special monochrome variant that has blacklight reactive ink which reveals a secret image!"

Screen print with blacklight reactive ink
24 x 36 inches
Hand-numbered edition of 100

The “O.G.” BLADE RUNNER movie screened on local cable television (in Singapore) Saturday, and featured the “dialog narration” of “Deckard” and a slight change in background music/score is some scenes … for a self-professed "fan", I am not too familiar with this incarnation/edit ... nevertheless it’s always a good day to see the riveting Sean Young amidst a wall of cigarette smoke LOL

Building Blade Runner 2049 Miniatures by Weta Workshop

Splendid BTS / “Behind-The-Scenes” for BLADE RUNNER 2049 to share today, featuring New Zealand’s WETA WORKSHOP and their Miniature Builds for the Denis Villeneuve-directed feature film!

From the video featured up top, to the stills (from the Weta Facebook / previously featured on #popcornX), it’s situations like this I would LOVE to showcase to my past-film students, to see the validity of “model making”, even if folks do not look toward “Singapore” for such craft … “Practicality” and “Geographic locations/situations” sometimes might make strange bedfellows, no? LOL

WETA SAYS: "Weta Workshop was honoured to contribute practical miniatures, selected cinematography, and concept design work to Blade Runner 2049, directed by Denis Villeneuve. This was a passion project for our crew, who are huge fans of Ridley Scott's iconic 1982 original.

Here in Wellington, NZ, we hand-made enormous miniature sets which were then filmed by legendary cinematographer Alex Funke. In the Design Studio, our team of conceptual designers helped give shape to the director’s vision. Check out our work and then see the film - it's out now."

BLADE RUNNER BLACK OUT 2022 - Anime Prequel to #BladeRunner2049 - Directed by Shinichiro Watanabe

"In 2022, an EMP detonation has caused a global blackout that has massive, destructive implications all over the world. Directed by Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo's Shinichiro Watanabe, Blade Runner Black Out 2022 is a new and highly-anticipated animated short which serves as a prologue for the upcoming feature film Blade Runner 2049."
Remember that third “prequel” short film for “Blade Runner 2049” - commissioned by director Denis Villeneuve we have been waiting for? And that “Blade Runner Anime” announced not too long ago? Turns out they are ONE AND THE SAME! The third prequel short (to come after Luke Scott’s “2036: Nexus Dawn” and “2048: Nowhere to Run”) IS the anime, directed by Shinichiro Watanabe (“Cowboy Bebop”, “Samurai Champloo”)!

Featuring over 15 minutes of replicants gone rogue, this is pretty darn swell hype leading up to the film’s premiere on October 6th, 2017 in the USA, and on October 5th in Singapore.

“Blade Runner 2049” Prequels from Luke Scott

BLADE RUNNER 2049 director Denis Villeneuve had invited filmmakers to direct a trio of “prequel” short films, bridging events unfolding after “2019”, and before “2049” - the year of the upcoming, highly anticipated feature film. Featured here today are shorts directed by Luke Scott (2016 “Morgan”, prequel shorts to “Alien: Covenant”).

2036: Nexus Dawn” (featured above) stars Jared Leto as “Niander Wallace”, and his splendid evocative poise that makes him an exceptional actor of this age, IMHO.

Featured below this is “2048: Nowhere to Run” - showcasing the character “Sapper Morton” - played with excellent vulnerability by Dave Bautista! (Select screen grabs uploaded HERE on #popcornX FB)

Mind you, these shorts are technically not inside/apart-of the feature film per se, unlike the recent featured “Bigger Than You” clip, but are meant to complement the world/lore of “Blade Runner” - much like the recently announced “Blade Runner: Black Out 2022” anime from Shinichiro Watanabe (for Sony Japan) expands said world/lore/history - which, do pardon me for a lack of vocabulary - is ALL KINDS OF AWESOME!

Folks’ adoration for actor Jared Leto is justified - Juz sayin’! (Select screengrabs for for “2036: Nexus Dawn” uploaded HERE on #popcornX FB)

The Coming of “Blade Runner Black Out 2022” Anime by Shinichiro Watanabe for Sony Japan

"Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo fame is directing a short Blade Runner anime." - reported Brian Ashcraft for kotaku.com.
And that’s essentially all I needed to read to get my geek-blood pumping’! And the sneak peek at said anime just left me breathless with anticipation, I sh*t you not!

"The short anime is called Blade Runner Black Out 2022 (γƒ–γƒ©γƒƒγ‚―γ‚’γ‚¦γƒˆ 2022). It’s takes place a few years after the first movie and, according to NetLab, is set during a power outage."
Relishing the prospect of seeing MORE “Blade Runner” - ironically even though we’ve yet to watch “Blade Runner 2049” even though clips from the highly anticipated film has been unfolding in recent days - which works well for me (personally), as it still affords us small doses, without over-doing it, over-supplying folks, overloading our senses, IMHO.

Although, I wonder if anyone online would be possibly up-in-arms about the “effects of reverse white-washing”? “Anime-everything, much?” I for one am stoked to have this coming! Sort of reminded me of “The Matrix” with the anime-anthologies - which I ADORE!

The anime will be shown on the Sony Pictures Japan YouTube channel on September 26th.

New Clip for #BladeRunner2049

A recently released clip from BLADE RUNNER 2049 sees "Officer K" (played by Ryan Gosling) visit a part of the world in the upcoming Denis Villeneuve-directed feature film, that isn’t from the by-now-recognizable decaying dysphoria of the urban city, and instead a forgotten slum of epic proportions, very much like “child labour / sweat shops” exploding into the next millennia, and I kinda like this point-of-view. The character played by Lennie James is as-yet-named.

I am actually pretty cuffed with this clip, as it does not show the cityscape - something what which we've been "accustomed" to from the first Ridley Scott film from 30 years ago - but is also excited to see a landscape and ecology beyond the uber-commercialized "civilization". We always want "more of the same", but something "new" always seem more interesting than "something different", IMHO.

"Blade Runner 2049" premieres globally October 6th, 2017.

About That “BLADE RUNNER” Water Pistol from Japan

There’s no fancy or smarter way of saying it (I certainly couldn’t rein in my excitement), but Introducing the “BLADE RUNNER WATER PISTOL”!

Made and released in Japan by Elfin Knights Project, the official name for this beauty is "M2019 WATER BLASTER (Takagi Type)" (in case you need to search for it :p) - so this might not be a fully-"licensed" product (TBC) ... and it is available in two editions:

The "Clear Black Type" (Brown handle colorway) is the classic version, while I suspect the "Clear Silver Type" (Blue Handle colorway) is the new “Blade Runner 2049”-version? Don’t care lah -iWANT!

I was first clued in it’s existence by Eldred circa Wonder Festival, and have been seeing it pop into folks collections via score-snaps online, and I certainly hope to join them soon on owning one - OR TWO!

Long had I wanted a Blaster-replica from when the Ridley Scott-directed film existed in 1982, but through the years, the exactingly detailed replicas meant the collectible being out of my financial reach, although ironically now, the water pistol exists in the basic form, from which I could perhaps custom-paint (which I would end up talking about, but never do…), much less to order it online and have it pass thru safely in Singapore-customs (“Gun” laws are insanely strict here in SG, even for “Airsoft” replicas - which I have nothing against all these years, until now… LOL).

Will me owning these toy guns remain a wistful-dream?

Folks beyond Japan can score these online via auction sites, but bear in mind the initial retail price (apparently) was US$12 (SRP 1,296 YEN excluding tax) each? Excluding “shipping”, of course! So that US$250 version you see listed? “Double Check” again! Adam Savage of TESTED tests out the gun, and thanks to him, I WANT IT EVEN MOOOOORE! Dammit I'm loosing my mind here…!

...one day, this will be ME holding the piece too ... :)

Ryan Gosling-ccentric Promos for #BladeRunner2049

A quartet of (mostly) Ryan Gosling-ccentric instagram video-promos for the coming BLADE RUNNER 2049 feature film, which understandably seemingly looks like they are pushing hard for future recognisability, versus “memories” of Harrison Ford as “Deckard” from the classic sci-fi-film of 1982, methinks… “Time” and the audience will tell/annoint Mr Gosling’s legacy as the newest “Blade Runner” - “K”, IMHO.

BLADE RUNNER 2049: Teaser for upcoming New Trailer & Character Posters

A new trailer for “BLADE RUNNER 2049” premieres the following Monday (May 8th, somewhen is U.S.time) and here’s a teaser for said trailer, featuring more words spoken than heard in the first announcement trailer, and as well two character posters have been unveiled (via Twitter @bladerunner) - featuring Harrison Ford (as “Rick Deckard”), and Ryan Gosling (as “K”, and NO, he does not work for “MIB” :p) - alongside his suped-up version of how a “Spinner” might look like in 2049? (Now looking like a drop-ship from an Aliens’ movie, IMHO).
