"BLADE RUNNER: BLACK LOTUS" - Official Trailer & Poster (Plus Throwback to Anime Prequel tp Blade Runner 2049)
"BLADE RUNNER: BLACK LOTUS" is an upcoming new animated series inspired by the Blade Runner movie, coming this fall from Crunchyroll original on Adult Swim in the U.S.
The 13-episoder series is directed by Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama and produced by Alcon Entertainment and animation studio Sola Digital Arts, with Shinichiro Watanabe serving as a creative producer (All above info via)
We've thus far been treated to a "Official Trailer" (Watch below), and a teaser poster (featured up top).
I am interested to see more beyond this trailer, having been spoilt by early anime incarnations (circa Blade Runner 2049-era - Scroll down to find out more), so this looks unappealing, to be honest (that's just my personal preferences), and the onus will be on the "story", at least for my watching expectations. Inevitable comparisons will be evoked with Disney's "Star Wars: Vision", regardless of "animation genres", methinks.
I am somewhat reminded of the Unreal Engine 4-generated 3DCG animation seen in the closing credits of "NO GUNS LIFE" anime - which I adored (but not the "closing credits", sorry).
Featured below is a online discussion panel with Shinji Aramaki (co-director), Kenji Kamiyama (co-director), Joseph Chou (executive producer), Wes Gleason (voice director), Jessica Henwick (voice of Elle) and Jason DeMarco (co-creator of Toonami and moderator) as they "discuss the highly anticipated new series coming to Adult Swim this fall."
In 2017, when Blade Runner 2049 premiered, there had been live-action short films and animation which served as additional "prequels" to the Denis Villeneuve-directed feature film .... THIS is a relook :)
Black Out 2022" Anime Short: "In 2022, an EMP detonation has caused a global blackout that has massive, destructive implications all over the world. Directed by Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo's Shinichiro Watanabe, Blade Runner Black Out 2022 is a new and highly-anticipated animated short which serves as a prologue for the upcoming feature film Blade Runner 2049."
